We are the girls from the Two Sisters and a Story blog and we are ecstatic to be back again to share another DELICIOUS and HEALTHY recipe with you all.
We absolutely love this time of year. The holiday festivities, the lights, the snow, spending time with loved ones, we love it all. We have so many fun things to look forward to!
If you’re anything like we are, then this time of year (or all year round even) you might find yourself running short on time to get everything on your to-do list accomplished. When we become extra busy one of the first things we lose track of is our healthy eating habits. We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that some nights we end up not cooking dinner at all and resort to a cheap pizza or quick meal elsewhere (anyone else guilty of that?) While these options can definitely make life easier, they are not always the healthiest or most budget friendly option.
So today we thought we would share with you one of our favorite go-to meals that we think is perfect for those busy days when you just need to simplify things. Although this recipe is a winter favorite of ours it can also be used year-round and is sure to please a crowd. So, give a try and let us know what you think.

- 1 pound lean ground turkey meat
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 green pepper chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes, do NOT drain
- 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- 1 15 oz. can light black beans, drained
- 1 15 oz. can chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup brown rice
- 2 cups of water
- Shredded cheddar cheese diced avocado, and/or sour cream for garnish
In a stockpot add rice and water, once it begins to boil reduce heat to low and cover for 40 minutes.
In another large stockpot brown the turkey meat. Add onion, pepper, and garlic and cook until onion is translucent. Add beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, chili powder, and Italian seasoning and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer 20-30 minutes. Season to taste with the salt and pepper.
Place a scoop of brown rice in a bowl and add the chili on top.
Garnish with shredded cheese, avocado, or sour cream.
